Cobremayo
Latrine Construction and Health Education
Project Summary
TERRA and Peace Corps Volunteer Christina Brassey proudly
announce the completion of the Cobremayo Latrine Building
Project.
Five
composting latrines have been successfully constructed and are
functioning
properly. Prior to completing the latrines, Christina trained residents
on proper use and maintenance of the latrines.
Latrines are
vital to the health and sanitation. In rural Bolivian communities, the
infant mortality rate averages 10%, often caused by water contaminated
with fecal chloroform (a bacteria derived from human waste). By
constructing sanitary facilities, TERRA and Christina Brassey improved
the health of the residents of Cobremayo, likely decreasing the infant
mortality.
This
project was funded 100% by TERRA's donors. They include
Josh, Johanna, and Jackson Borella, the Teller family, Ms. V. Sours,
the Budd Family, Ms. A. Chen, Ms. P. Ferrell, Ms. A. Chen, Ms. L. Otis,
and donations
received from our friends of TERRA campaign. Thank you for your
generosity and humanitarian will.
